Bright oil murals depicting the Troubles, and gilded shamrocks bring this beautiful old pub to life. It’s very popular with shoppers who drop by here for a much-needed respite and refreshments at reasonable prices. £
Galley Café

This fun café is the ideal place for a relaxing meal on the Belfast Barge moored behind the Waterfront Hall and an ideal spot from which to survey the river traffic. Not surprisingly their seafood platter – comprising smoked salmon, mussels, prawns and catch of the day – is their signature dish. ££
Kitchen Bar

It has been relocated from its original site around the corner to accommodate the Victoria Square development, but nothing else has changed at the Kitchen Bar – it’s still full of charm, still friendly and still renowned for its quality, home-cooked traditional food. Famous for the Paddy Pizza (soda bread served with various toppings). £
Malmaison Brasserie

Elegant booths and comfy armchairs provide the perfect blend of sumptuous surroundings and an informal atmosphere. The menu of locally sourced food lets you sample uncomplicated French-style cuisine prepared with care and passion. Rumour has it this is the best crème brûlée in Belfast. £££
McHugh’s Bar and Restaurant

This traditional pub with a difference has a 100-seater restaurant where many of its original features dating from 1711 are retained. The food is mostly modern Irish and the house speciality is the volcanic hot rock steak, which sizzles on a board of steaming stones at your table until cooked to your desired style. £–££
Tedfords

In keeping with its maritime traditions, freshly caught fish features on the menu, although the succulent steaks are popular, too. Tedfords overlooks the waterfront and attracts many loyal locals. ££–£££
